Charity video production

This leading blood cancer charity commissioned Magneto to produce a brand video to mark what would have been the 50th birthday of their namesake Anthony Nolan. The charity was founded by his mother Shirley Nolan, when she realised that Anthony’s best hope for surving his disease was what was then known as a bone marrow transplant. The charity wanted a film that would help explain their name and history but also look forward to the support and research that they offer, as well as telling the stories of some of the people they help.

Storytelling and case studies

We proposed a technique we call ‘many voices, one story’ that carefully combines gently scripted contributions with off the cuff remarks to create a single seamless narrative that offers multiple perspective on a single story. We do this by creating a script based on pre-shoot interviews, using people’s own words to weave the thoughts and feelings of 4 or 5 people into a single brand story. This film featured the stories of 2 cancer survivors, a donor, Anthony Nolan’s chief nurse, and their lead research scientist.

Founder’s aims and future plans

Together they tell the story of the charity’s foundation, show how the pioneering spirit of one mother has led to thousands of lives saved, and high lights the support they offer and brings to life their groundbreaking research.
