Creating accessible exercise videos for people with lung conditions

Asthma + Lung UK commissioned a series of exercise training videos for people living with breathing difficulties. The films needed to provide clinically accurate guidance while remaining accessible, reassuring and easy for viewers with different conditions and levels of ability to follow.

Research and script development were central to the production process. We held detailed briefings with the charity, physiotherapists and medical professionals before structuring the series around an introduction, warm-ups and detailed exercise guidance. Draft scripts were fact-checked by the specialists and then used to guide the filming.

Working with real people

We recruited a small group of people living with common respiratory conditions and filmed them completing the exercises with two on-screen trainers. This allowed the films to provide practical guidance appropriate to a range of conditions and abilities. An on-set medical professional checked that every movement was suitable and demonstrated correctly.

Training people to exercise safely

To reinforce the message that appropriate exercise can be safe and beneficial, we also produced individual case-study videos with the participants. They explained their conditions, described how exercise had helped them and shared practical insights from their own experience.
