Showing how mobility supports independence
Motability Foundation
A brand film connecting personal stories with wider impact
The Motability Foundation commissioned a charity brand film to show how its work improves mobility, independence and access to transport for disabled people across the UK. Although the Motability Scheme is widely recognised, the Foundation also funds research, grants and community projects. The film brought this wider impact to life while introducing its new brand identity.
Researching lived experience and wider impact
We proposed a documentary approach that would combine personal experience with a broader explanation of the Foundation’s work. Before filming, we spoke with staff, partner organisations and people who use mobility aids and adapted vehicles. This research helped us understand what mobility makes possible, where barriers remain and why the Foundation’s support matters.
From these conversations, we developed a film around three people with different experiences of mobility and support. Nazmin described a relationship with Motability stretching back to her first car at 19. Hannah explained how the Foundation’s support was helping her return to work, while 14-year-old Lukas’s family spoke about how it helped them care for him.
Across the three stories, mobility emerged as more than transport: it supported freedom, participation and a greater sense of possibility.
To place these personal experiences within a wider context, we interviewed specialists from the National Centre for Accessible Transport and organisations including Croydon Vision. Their contributions explained how the Foundation supports people who cannot access the wider Motability Scheme, funds innovative projects and invests in research intended to improve accessibility across the UK.
Combining personal testimony with specialist evidence
The brand film combines interviews with natural observational sequences filmed at home, during everyday journeys and while contributors use adapted equipment. This approach allowed us to show both the emotional and practical importance of mobility while connecting individual experiences with the Foundation’s wider purpose.
Creating an authentic recruitment film
The Motability Foundation also commissioned a recruitment film featuring members of its staff. We brought colleagues together for an informal conversation about their work, values and experiences. This created a relaxed and credible account of what it is like to work for the organisation.
Filming contributors across England
We filmed in London, Coventry and the Midlands, working in contributors’ homes and on everyday journeys to capture the practical realities of mobility.
”"The video is uplifting, inspiring, modern and fresh just what we wanted."
