Town & Country Planning / Environment Agency
Making a public sector training video
Commissioned by the Town and Country Planning Association, with support from the Environment Agency, this film explains their role in planning for the climate emergency, and in particular how the planning system can be used to mitigate the risks of flooding and coast erosion.
The video was aimed at people working in local authorities, in particular planning officers and elected members, so it had to be carefully and accurately scripted. We suggested using members of the TCPA’s own team of experts, creating confidence in the information being delivered on screen, and making the most of peer learning opportunites.
Some of the staff were first timers in front of the camera so we coached them through it, and made use of a autocue system to help them deliver lines.
Documentary storytelling for training video
Rather than a studio location, we suggested filming on location – visiting the scenes of previous flooding events, meeting people whose homes and businessed have been affected. We were also able to make use of archive footage and photography to add insight to the training video.
Shot on location in Sheffield.
